Halloween Pet Costume Contest and More Spooktacular Picks

Here at ScriptiLabs we take many a things seriously: Google algorithm updates, browser functionality, breakfast tacos, amongst others. Halloween is yet another one of those things that we take very seriously. As soon as October 1st hit, the ScriptiLabs crew was feverishly planning costumes, decorations, contests, and more to celebrate the fun holiday. Halloween this year is on a Friday, so we not only get to have a fun-filled week of candy eating and gallivanting around in costumes at the office, but we get a weekend to enjoy the awesome Halloween events around Austin as well. So, we present you with our complete guide to Halloween in Austin.

What to do?

There are SO many things to do in Austin beginning way before the night of the 31st. From masquerade balls to pub crawls to comedy shows, there’s something to do for all ages. Check out Do512’s list of Halloween activities or Austin 360’s Halloween event picks.

Our recommendation:  House of Torment – This is not for the spook novice. This haunted house, located at Highland Mall, is nothing short of terrifying. Those that put on the haunted house work year round to perfect makeup, scare tactics, and haunting situations. Visit the House of Torment for a thrill-seeking night!

What to make?

If you’re an avid pinner much like our internet marketers, you’ve been bombarded with Halloween decorating and recipe ideas. If you’re not, we’ll highlight some of our favorite for you because who doesn’t enjoy festive treats and party ideas?

In keeping with the Austin theme, we present you Graveyard Taco Dip – perfect for any party!

1 can refried beans or refried black beans
2 cups sour cream
1 pkg taco seasoning
2 avocados, mashed
1 clove garlic, minced
2 Tbsp mayonnaise
1 cup salsa
1 bunch scallions (green onions), chopped

1. Mix sour cream and taco seasoning in a small bowl. In another small bowl, mix the mashed avocados, minced garlic, and mayonnaise.
2. In a small dish or pie plate, layer the beans, sour cream mixture, avocado mixture, and salsa. Sprinkle the scallions on top. Chill at least an hour, or until ready to serve.
3. To make the tombstones and tree, cut the shapes you want out of 2 large tortillas. Place the cut-out shapes on a parchment paper lined cookie tray and bake at 350 degrees until the tortillas are nice and brown. Put the tombstones and tree in the dip just before serving.
